AKOT, Sudan — They dine on peanuts and tea. It’s been 16 days since they were forced from their home. As Abraham Maper’s family ran, men raided their house, looting it of food.
His wife, Rebecca, gave birth to their fourth child hours before the violence erupted, forcing her to flee, still bleeding, with her newborn daughter.
“We escaped with our lives,” said Abraham, a local Baptist pastor. “God is with us and we are still alive; we say hallelujah.” More...

Pray Now!
A new possibility has arisen for someone to be assigned to the work in Rumbek. Unfortunately this possibility did not pan out and the person will not be coming. So, please continue to pray for new personnel to come to S Sudan in the near future. Big country, lots of people, very few Kingdom servants. There is a desperate need for trainers and educators of the many young leaders who are heading up our new churches.
Justin is still plugging away at the Bible school and classes are going well. The class seems to be holding strong with seven young men who are committed to increasing in knowledge and understanding of God's word. Continue to pray for this class - that they would bond together as they work towards a common goal of preparing themselves for effective Kingdom service. Pray for them to persevere as the classes get tougher and the assignments increase.
Abraham Maper and I had an incredible trip to the Malakal and Baliat area a few weeks ago. Though it was physically demanding the opportunity we had to train over three dozen young church leaders in that area was a spiritual and emotional high. We learned that there are over 14 Baptist churches spread out from Nasir to above Malakal that are vibrant and growing - but desperately needed, and still need, leadership training. They were all very excited that we came and taught them during the days we spent with each of them. Thank you all so much for praying for us while we were there.
Abraham and I recently finished teaching the leadership course to 14 church leaders in Akot on Thursday. A very encouraging time that concludes a few weeks in different locations around S Sudan teaching young leaders some concepts from Nehemiah that will make them better and more Godly leaders. What a joy and refreshment to my spirit it has been to be with these young men and women and to interact with them on some critical areas of church leadership. Thank you for praying for us during this time.
Praise for the great meetings in Birmingham this past month. There were many churches and organizations who came together to search for the way forward in unified partnership in many areas. In the coming weeks everone will be assessing how to work together for Kingdom glory and what role they each have in supporting our Sudanese brothers and sisters.
Please be praying for Cathy and I as we seek the heart of God in the days and weeks ahead. We have some big decisions that are before us and we want to have that "peace that passes all understanding" as we make these decisions.
Pay a visit to the Lewises web site (Toposaman.com) to see how they are doing. They are still grinding away at language and culture acquisition in Kapoeta. PTL - A couple of months ago Shannon baptized their first Taposa believer - what a time of celebration for the Kingdom. Pray for this man to produce good fruit in his land. Pray for them as they seek partners to come along side of them in what will be a long, slow, walk discipling new believers in what it means to give all for Christ.
Be praying for Abraham, Isaac and Shadrack as they lead the Akot Baptists through leadership training, running of the BTC, and chaplaincy ministries. Each of these young men has a heart for God and a desire to see Kingdom work grow in Akot and the surrounding areas of Sudan. Pray that they will work in unity and peace as they make decisions that will affect many in their area.
